Is you are an ex-biltong lover like me, you are going to love what I am about to tell you! I found, not one, but TWO types of vegan biltong and both are absolutely delicious! No more watching rugby at the bar, snacking on celery while everyone else is enjoying the salty, chewy goodness.
The first is V-Life Vegetarian Biltong which is available at Wellness Warehouse at R20 per packet. They are offered in a variety of yummy flavours including the original biltong flavour, spicy chilly, honey infusion and black pepper. V-Life Vegetarian Biltong products are suitable for all vegetarians, vegans and Jains and serve as a deliciously tasty alternative for biltong lovers. You can view their website and online shop here or even follow them on Facebook here.
The second biltong alternative is brinjal biltong that I found at R40 per packet at the V&A Market on the Wharf. It is sold at the By Nature food stall who offers a variety of raw products including nuts, preservative-free sweet and savoury dried fruits, seeds, grains and even cocoa beans. By Nature food stalls can also be found at a variety of other markets including the Stellenbosch Fresh Goods Market as well as the Willowbridge Slow Market , which makes me very happy as it is right around the corner from me! For more info on their products or participating markets, you can follow the By Nature blog here.
These veggie biltong alternatives has made me one very happy vegan! I encourage you to give it a go, but beware – they are highly addictive!
