Date balls make for the perfect pick-me-up treat, or a healthy snack when you feel like something sweet. They are delicious, nutritious, super quick to make, lasts long in the fridge and are even fine to freeze! My dad has a serious sweet tooth and so I try to keep a batch on hand to keep him from ravishing a chocolate bar instead. A great way to prevent getting bored of munching balls, is to play around with a few of your favourite flavour combinations. For my latest obsession, I jumped on the tea-train and used Flavour Nation’s Chai Flavouring Drops to create Chai-tea date balls. These flavouring drops contain no sugar, no preservatives, no stabilizers, no oils, no allegrens and are GMO-free! They come in a variety of fabulous flavours to help you play with your food and create the delicious dishes you crave. The drops are fantastic for vegan cooking as they come in flavours we won’t usually be able to enjoy – including butter, honey, cream cheese and bacon flavours!
Chai-Tea Date Balls
- 1 cup pitted dried dates
- 1 cup boiling hot water
- 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
- 1/2 cup pecan nuts
- 10 drops Flavour Nation’s Chai Flavouring Drops
- Place the dates in the boiling hot water and microwave for 30 seconds until the dates are soft. If you don’t have a microwave, you can just let them soak in the hot water for 20 minutes.
- Place the sunflower seeds and pecan nuts in a food processor and process until finely ground. Drain the dates and add it to the food processor with the drops of chai drops.
- Blend until a dough forms (you will have to scrape down the sides once or twice).
- Use a teaspoon to scoop out a dollop of dough and roll in your hands into a little smooth date ball.
- Continue this until all the dough is done.
- Place in the fridge to set.
- Transfer the balls into a sealed Tupperware and keep in the fridge. (You can also freeze the date balls)
