{Review} Vegan-friendly Valentine’s Dinner at Siagon

Saigon is an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Cape Town. Sebastian actually took me there for our Valentine’s Day dinner after searching for a pleasant vegan-friendly menu for over three hours. He deserves a pat on the back for finding this one! The food is delicious, fresh and aromatic and the ambiance is warm and luxurious. They offer a variety of options for vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians as well as meat-eaters, thus Sebastian and I both utterly enjoyed our dinner. We were seated inside at a window table which looked over the picturesque view of Table Mountain, but the restaurant also has a roof terrace which would be splendid on a summery Cape-Town eve.

It was hard to choose my meals as everything seemed so appealing and so I had to ask our waitress what she would suggest a first-time vegan guest should eat. For a starter, I opted for the Crystal Salad Rolls served with a Black Bean peanut sauce. I literally licked my peanut sauce bowl out with my finger, hopefully, no one saw me! Thereafter I had (really) spicy tofu as my main – I love spicy food so no complaints! The dish portions are quite large and so I had to take half of my main home as a doggy bag (which I devoured for lunch the next day).  We finished the date off by sharing a deep-fried banana and ice cream dessert – Sebastian obviously had the ice cream and ginger tea.

- Vegan dining at its best!

The night was an absolute bliss; this little vegan got spoilt rotten! Saigon Cape Town is the perfect place for a vegan-friendly date and I cannot wait to return and taste the rest of the delectable vegan dishes on their menu. Apparently, the baked aubergine and coconut vegetable curry is a must! Unfortunately, this is a very popular, always full spot. So ensure that you book a table beforehand for any night of the week. You are allowed to bring your own wine, but will be required to pay a corkage fee.
