I am so darn excited! The SPCA Purina Woefie Wandel doggie-walk is taking place this month (30 March 2014) and I will be acting as volunteer for registrations. What better way to spend a Sunday than on the beautiful grounds of D’Aria Wine Estate in Durbanville between hundreds of barking, tail-wagging friends.
This is the one event that neither you, nor your doggie, want to miss! In 2012 more than 1200 walkers and nearly 1000 dogs took part in the walk and the SPCA is expecting even more animal-lovers and their companions to take part in this year’s event. The 4km scenic dog walk through the charming vineyards of D’Aria is organised by the Cape of Good Hope SPCA and leading pet food company PURINA. It gives you such a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your dog and really just dedicating a day to do something for them. More so, you will also be making a huge difference in the lives of hundreds of home-less shelter pups at the SPCA. More than just a walk, the event offers delicious eats and treats, wine-tasting on the farm, giveaways, lucky draws and competitions!
An important note: “We caution owners of short-nose dog breeds (i.e. bulldogs and pugs) and those with older dogs with joint problems, to consult their veterinarian before committing to take part in the walk. Puppies under four months are not permitted to take part. Owners of large breed dogs 18 months or younger, should also consider walking a shorter distance which will be indicated along the route , as extended walking can put undue pressure on delicate skeletal structures”, said CoGH SPCA Events Coordinator, Juan August.
Water and cool-off points for both dogs and owners will be available along the routes. SPCA Inspectors and Animal Welfare Assistants will be on hand to ensure human and canine walkers are kept safe along the routes.
